Destrehan Historic Sites & Interpretive Centres
Featuring French Colonial and Greek Revival architecture, this plantation is 21 miles from downtown New Orleans. This is the oldest documented plantation home in the lower Mississippi Valley. It was also the site of some of "Interview with a Vampire"'s scenes.
Built in the "Louisiana Colonial" style which is modeled after the plantations of the West Indies, this plantation was built before 1790. There are two Garconnieres that were added sometime afterwards. The Antebellum mansion is known for its ghost stories, and the tragic deaths of some of its owners.
